NAPANGARDI DOROTHY (Warlpiri). Circa 1950-2013 Mina... - Lot 120 - Art Richelieu
NAPANGARDI DOROTHY (Warlpiri). Circa 1950-2013 Mina Mina salt / Mina Mina salt, 2011 Dorothy was one of the most important Warlpiri artists from the Nyirrpi community northwest of Alice Springs in the Tamani Desert. Born in Mina Mina not far from Lake Mackay, she was raised and chose to live according to the ancestral aboriginal tradition. Her painting reflects this choice with the representation of her native region. She died shortly after completing this painting in a car accident in the bush while hunting goanna. Many of her paintings have been chosen by major Australian museums. In April 2013 she had been invited to Brisbane to the exhibition and conference center where a 600 m2 carpet was made featuring one of her representations of the dunes in her home region. This painting is in line with the works of her last years presenting her region of origin in a more contemporary way. Signed on the back. Acrylic on canvas (belgian linen) 120 x 60cm Provenance : commissioned by Geoff Small of the Studio Desert Art Center, private collection France.
