UDERZO Albert (1927-2020) - PHOTO ON REQUEST Asterix.... - Lot 160 - Art Richelieu
UDERZO Albert (1927-2020) - PHOTO ON REQUEST Asterix. "Cumulonimbus and Tadevirus" pencil sketch Exceptional pencil sketch on paper depicting the Roman soldiers Tullius Cumulonimbus and Tadevirus, featured in the album Le Grand fossé, published in 1980 by Editions Albert René (the 25th album in the series and the first without a script by René Goscinny, who died in 1977). Albert Uderzo's lively, rounded style is evident in this search for characters. The drawing is signed in the lower right-hand corner, and the frame also includes a dedication signed by Uderzo "To Mathilde Quesnel with all my friendship". A cloth designer, Mathilde Quesnel made personalized clothing for the book artists and artisans she met and appreciated. She received this original drawing from Uderzo in gratitude for the long robe she had made for him, adorned with onomatopoeia and texts from Asterix. (A book has also been dedicated to this approach, "Hommes et femmes de lettres au pays de l'écriture", Éditions Elepao, 2002, which received the Grand Prix Spécial du jury de La Nuit du Livre in 2003). Size of plate: 25 x 32.5 cm Insolated drawing: the part exposed under the glass of the frame (30.5x21.5cm area) is yellowed, creating a differential with the outline (approx. 5 cm) hidden under the marie-louise, which remains white. There is a small brown stain in the lower left-hand corner and a tiny trace of folding in the center. It should be noted that the frame is probably a reuse from a previous exhibition (the label mentions La galère d'Obélix, an album in which these two characters do not appear). Expert: Pauline Testut
