Cenotaph veil, Kaba, Turkey, early 20th century, silk lampas, red background, yellow decoration with inscriptions in chevrons. The Qur'anic verses in the narrow zigzag bands refer to the Qibla direction towards which Muslims turn in prayer, and to which the heads of the deceased are directed at their funerals.
